With all the news of recalls I started looking for toys that were not made in china for my three kids. After looking through the shelves of a local toy store and finding that it seemed "everything" is made in china I decided to go home and do a little internet research. There's not a lot of information on main stream toys not made in China, so I setup this web site.

On the left are links that will list toys by brands that are safe, and you can browse Amazon.com for toys that are described as being made in countries other than china. Use the subcategories under that one to narrow down your search. Finding safe toys not made in china for your kids doesn't have to be that hard.

Toys R Us released a list of 500 or so items not made in China, but it's somewhat vague. It seems as though there is a lot of pressure on companies not to make China look bad. In fact, Mattel even apologized to China for all the recalls. Apparently we're supposed to be OK with the fact that they are poisioning our children. I have that from Toys R Us list here.

If you make, or know of other toys that aren't made in china, please, let me know. Send me a URL to your site as a manufacturer, or a link to the item on Amazon or another site. Most of the links of toys-without-china.com are from Amazon.com. You can add the items you like to your wish list and print it for your in-store shopping, or order them directly from Amazon if you'd rather not wade through all the Chinese toys to find those on your list.

I added a search for TC Timber toys for Amazon. Right now they aren’t showing as much as Turner Toys (See link below) and the prices are higher at Amazon. Hopefully Amazon will carry more, and at lower prices soon.I’m guessing they’ve sold out of a lot with a lot of parents like us avoiding Chinese toys.

My wife and I just placed our big Amazon order and things kept becoming unavailable so I’d suggest if you’re over the $25 for super saver shipping, go ahead and order it now, and if you need to come back, place another order. One item went from $55 to $70 on us in just a day or two, so we’re going to hold out for a bit. Had we placed the order then for the few things we had, we wouldn’t have spent anymore in shipping.

I spent a couple hours tonight adding some more brands and refining another Amazon search for a lot of small china free toy companies. There’re 62 pages still, so use the subcategories in the left column to help you find what you’re looking for.

It seems Amazon.com is all out of Roy Toy. It seems there are a lot of us avoiding toys made in China. Most of the Roy Toy items are still listed for sale at www.roytoy.com though.

There seems to be a few Playmobil items that are made in China as well. They are:

3670 - Remote Control Module
4330 - Fairy Tale Castle Mini
4331 - Pirate Mini
4332 - Noah’s Ark Mini
4333 - Knights Castle Mini
4397 - Electrical Signal
4450 - Bunny Workshop
4451 - Bunny w/Wheelbarrow
4452 - Bunny
4453 - Bunny w/wagon

Sign up for The Safe Toys Tribune. I’ve setup a mailing list so I can update you with information on toys not made in China through E-mail. The list is new, so I’ll be tinkering with it to get it perfect, but it should be functional now. I hope to share information I get from other users this way as well so we can all provide safe toys for our kids.

After stopping at the drive through at McDonald’s with my son the other day I got to wondering where the toy was made, so I checked the bottom. The current Shrek offerings are made in Vietnam, which made me happy. I think I’m going to add a section to the site listing where the current toy offering from the fast food chains are, but I’m going to need your help for that.

If anyone has fast food toys they recently received, please let me know where they were made so I can post it here.

I found another manufacturer of toys made in the USA. American Plastic Toys makes mainstream, normal, plastic toys kids should love, and the prices are low. Some of the reviews didn’t rave about the quality, but it seems in line with the pricing. A link has been added to the left.

I found some wooden train sets at Turner Toys that are made in the US and Germany. BRIO IS MADE IN CHINA! I don’t know if they are Brio compatible or not. Turner has other items not made in China, but the site is not completely China free.

I was sent a link for another china free site. www.nmctoys.com According to the sender: “All of the toys are either manufactured in the U.S. or Europe and every item shows where it was manufactured. We are constantly adding new products and carry a wide variety of wooden toys and games. You are welcome to list us on your site. We currently have a 10% off coupon code QUALITYTOYS. “

The Little Tykes website lists Little Tykes toys Made in the USA. It looks like a lot are selling out fast through their site directly, but Amazon may still have them, or of course your local stores.

I found another online store with country selector so you can browse for toys and avoid China. Lots of educational type toys at OOMPA.COM

I added listings for K’NEX, which seem to be made in the US, but I’m not 100% sure on that. They also distribute Lincoln Logs and Brio trains, but I can’t find info on where they are made. BUT, Roy Toy, a log building toy, is made in the US.
